News Hour- Kingfisher Airlines' pilots get their salaries

MUMBAI: A few of the pilots with Kingfisher Airlines had reasons to chase away the Monday blues as they got their December salaries after a wait of nearly three months. Vijay Mallya, promoter of Kingfisher had promised his employees a month's salary disbursal in a letter to his employees.

Kingfisher employees who are not paid their salaries had threatened to shut work if the not paid immediately. After a day long marathon meetings at Kingfisher's offices and then at Mallya's Mumbai residence, the employees agreed to report for work and the management promised a month's salaries.

Company sources say only some of Kingfisher pilots are paid since morning. "The pilots who have an account with Axis Bank and HDFC have been paid. But pilots with accounts of ICICI banks are yet to receive salaries," said a Kingfisher employee.

The airline is hit by turbulence and is looking for an investor and some policy change to sail through the difficult financial situation. Mallya has not been able to get funding for Kingfisher till now as the losses mount. The airline is currently operating only 120 flights with 16 aircraft.
