Closing Summary- Market Synopsis- 5 January, 2012

After trading in the positive terrain for most part of trade, the Sensex ended in red, for second consecutive day, while Nifty shut shop with marginal gains. The bourses started trade on a positive note and registered intraday high within minutes of the opening bell. The gauges were losing strength from that level. However, an ease in weekly inflation and positive global cues helped them to stay on the positive terrain till late afternoon session. But, a bout of selling pressure in the realty and oil & gas counters during late trading session dragged the major indices to intraday lows. The Sensex ended at 15857, lower by 26 points and the Nifty ended flat at 4750.
