Closing Summary- Market Synopsis- 2 January, 2012

The first trading session of 2012 finished on a positive note, kicking off the new year in green territory after clocking hefty losses last year. The Indian markets opened on a slight positive note. However, they retreated to day's low in early afternoon before recovering again. The gains came from tracking the positive cues of the European markets. The midcap and the small-cap counters closed flat.
