The major Indian equity benchmarks managed to close the day in green. The day had started on a positive note, succeeded by consolidation in the first half, a little volatility in the second half and finally a strong close. This led the Sensex to close at the level of 19342.02 i.e., up by 36.70 points and the Nifty to close at the level of 5889.25 i.e., up by 18.30 points. The midcap counters closed flat to positive while small-cap counters closed positive by over half a percentage point. On the sectoral front, the indices closed mixed. Oil&Gas index closed as the major gainer with gains of over one and a half percentage point while Consumer Durables index closed as the major loser with losses of over half a percentage point. Further, the market breadth closed positive as five stocks were seen advancing for every four declines.
