Morning Summary, Market Synopsis: 3rd January, 2014


The market has opened with a gap down and is trading down due to automobiles sector and Infrastructure sector as the benchmark index is headed for its lowest level in two weeks. The Sensex is down around half a percent to trade at 20797.00 and Nifty is trading at 6190.85, lower by 30.30 points or 0.50% as we write this. The Indian rupee is trading higher at 62.43, depreciated by 0.27%. On Global sector, Asian shares followed their US peers lower on Friday despite upbeat global economic data as profit-taking set in amid low trading volumes. On BSE, Small Cap and Mid Cap are trading lower since morning, down 0.23% and 0.06% respectively. On sectoral front, BSE Capital Goods is plunging almost 2% while BSE IT and BSE Teck are leading the sector, up 1.41% and 1.20% respectively.
Further the market breadth stands negative with 510 shares advancing against 703 declining shares.

Closing Summary, Market Synopsis: 2nd January, 2014


The Indian benchmarks ended the day on a flat note on January 1, 2014. The indexes opened on a slightly positive note and soon made the high of the day. Post this they were seen consolidating in a sideward manner, within a narrow band. Ultimately indexes closed in red. The first day of 2014 was completely listless for the market as institutional investors and big traders were away from the market after late night partying for new year celebration. After trading in a very tight range of 60-70 points, the Sensex closed at 21,140.48, down 30.20 points compared to previous day’s value. The Nifty was down 2.35 points to 6,301.65. The outperformance in the broader market continued. While the BSE Midcap gained 0.47 percent, Small cap soared a 1.5 percent. Bharti Airtel, NTPC, Sun Pharma, Coal India and Hero Motocorp were top gainers in the Sensex. On the losing side were Wipro, Tata Power, TCS, Reliance and Bhel. On the sectoral front, all the indexes except three closed in red. The Realty Index closed as the biggest gainer with the gains of nearly three percentage point. On the other hand IT Index closed as the biggest loser with a loss of slightly less than two-third of a percentage point.

Further, the market breadth closed positive as seven stocks were seen advancing against four declining stocks.

Commodity Market Update (Natural Gas)




Precious metals on COMEX are trading higher since morning and bounced from its 6-months low as physical demand for this metals spurred. Actively traded Gold contract surged around 1.5% or 17.60 points to trade at 1219.90 while Silver futures jumped to a high of 20.44 before settling at 19.97, up more than 3% or 60 cents an ounce. Base metals are gaining since morning as world two largest economies are improving. 3-month Zinc and Lead both are top gaining counters among the group, up around 1.75% each to trade at 2096.75 and 2249.00 respectively while Copper is up 65.50 points or 0.89% to trade at 7440.00 per metric ton. WTI Crude Oil is up 0.35% or 35 cents to trade at 98.75 while Natural Gas is trading almost flat at 4.239 with a meager gain of 1.2 cents or 0.28% per mmbtu.

The markets has opened with positive note and gained on the back of Banking Sector, Media sector and Service sector. The Nifty racing towards to its crucial resistance of 6350 level while Sensex is rising over 100 points. The Sensex rose 117.74 points to 21258.22 and the Nifty climbed to 6335.40, up 33.75 points. The Indian rupee is trading lower at 61.79, stronger by 11 paise or 0.18% after having tested a low of 61.75. On Global sector, Asian equity markets were mixed on the first trading day of the year while liquidity levels were low due to the holiday period. On BSE, Mid Cap and Small Cap are gaining since morning, up around a percent. On sectoral front, BSE Bankex is leading the all sectors, surge 1.50% while BSE Consumer Durables up 1.16%, followed by rest of the sectors.
