The
major Indian equity benchmarks ended the day and the week on a weak note. The
markets were seen extending its losses for the second straight trading session
amid weakness in the US and the Asian markets. This led the Sensex to close at
the level of 18683.68 i.e., down by 162.58 points and the Nifty to close at the
level of 5686.25 i.e., down by 52.50 points. The midcap counters closed
negative by a percentage point while small-cap counters closed negative by over
half a percentage point. On the sectoral front, all the indices closed in red.
PSU & Realty indices closed as the major losers with losses of over one and
a half percentage points. Further, the market breadth closed negative as only
one stock was seen advancing for every two declines.
