Stock indices ended down after a choppy session as investors booked profits after the over 4% rally last week. Fall in European equities after Fitch downgraded Italy's credit rating also prompted selling. The NSE Nifty provisionally ended at 5942.35, down 3.35 points or 0.1%, while BSE Sensex closed at 19646.21, down 37.02 points or 0.2%.
Realty and capital goods shares were among the top gainers, while oil and gas, metal, and information technology counters declined. DLF gained nearly 3%, while Siemens added around 5%. Top losers on Nifty50 are Heromotors, Baja-Auto, IDFC and Wipro.
