Morning Summary- Market Synopsis- 9 January, 2012

The markets opened the first session of the week on a sluggish note, in line with other global peers, as concerns on the Eurozone debt woes hurt sentiments. The Sensex was down 117 points to 15732 and the Nifty slipped 38 points to 4720.  Most of the sectoral indices, except for the IT, Healthcare and Power, were in the red with Metals and Auto leading the decline.  The market  breadth was slightly negative and five stocks were seen advancing against every seven declines. The markets might remain cautious today, ahead of the third quarter results of India Inc that will begin later this week. Industrial production numbers are to be announced on Thursday. This may also have some impact on the trading sentiment this week.
