The Indian stock markets
kicked off the new trading week on a negative note. Concerns about the
worsening macro-economic backdrop - both domestic and global - kept the market
participants on tenterhooks throughout the day. However, the Nifty recovered
from the session low after hitting an intra-day low of 4556 and the Sensex
recovered after hitting a low of 15190. Further, the midcap and the small-cap
counters were seen deep in red, as both closed negative by over two percentage
points.
