Closing Summary, Market Synopsis: 10th November, 2014

Amid a divergent trend among various index constituents, key benchmark indices eked out small gains. The 50-unit CNX Nifty hit record high on intraday basis as well as on closing basis. CNX Nifty shut shop at 8344, up by 7 points. FMCG stocks edged higher on renewed buying. Bank stocks declined.

The market breadth indicating the overall health of the market was negative in Nifty50 stocks, the advance to decline stood tied at 25 each.

Commodity Market Update

Precious Metals are trading slightly higher with Gold trading at 1171.90, lower by 0.18% or $2.00 an ounce. Silver is trading lower today with decline of 0.25% at 15.67 an ounce. The outlook turns negative and we can see prices easing further in coming sessions. On base metals, prices are trading range bound mixed with Aluminum declining over 1.11% while Lead is up by 0.95% as we write this. Crude Oil and Natural gas are trading in green with Crude Prices are up by 0.95% and Natural Gas prices are up by 2% at 4.50 as we write this.

The market has opened with some marginal gains. The Sensex is up 28.58 points at 27897.21, and the Nifty is up 0.80 points at 8337.80. The Indian rupee started the trade on a positive note. The currency climbed 19 paise to 61.43 per dollar against Friday's closing of 61.62. Dollar hovered below a four-year peak, having lost a bit of altitude late last week after US jobs data fell short of expectations, prompting some investors to take profits on extremely long positions. On BSE, midcap and smallcap are trading slightly green with adding 0.09% and 0.07% respectively. On sectoral front, FMCG is recording the maximum gain by adding 1.45% while on the flipside, Capital Goods is the worst trading sector to ease 0.95% as we write this.
Further the market breadth stands positive with 1189 shares are seen advancing against 1014 declining shares.

Shares of public sector oil marketing companies rose on fall in crude oil prices, Pharma stocks gained on weak rupee.

Commodity Market Update (Copper)

Gold and silver tumbled to the lowest level in more than four years as a gauge of the dollar headed for the biggest weekly advance in more than 12 months, curbing demand. Actively traded Gold tested a low of 1130.40 before erasing all of its losses and trading at 1144.50 an ounce while Silver also tested a low of 15.04 before settling in green at 15.44 an ounce. With the exception on Aluminum, Base metals are trading higher since morning with Copper trading at 6672.00, up around half a percent or 30 points after having tested a high of 6682.00, followed by rest of the metals as we write this. WTI Crude Oil prices headed for seventh weekly loss due to supply glut. OPEC is also expected to cut the supply outlook due to US supply. Light Sweet Crude Oil futures is trading flat at 77.95 with positive bias while Natural Gas is trading in red at 4.39, down 0.25% or a cent per mmbtu.

In the US on Thursday stocks climbed, lifting the Dow and S&P 500 to records, after upbeat economic reports in the US Jobless benefits fell by 10,000 to 278,000 last week, to 285,000. On BSE, midcap and smallcap are trading lower by 0.18% each. On sectoral front, Consumer Durable is up by 0.28% while on downside Metals sector is the worst performer to ease as much as a percentage, as we write this.
