Closing Summary, Market Synopsis: 5 th November, 2014


Key benchmark indices hit their all-time high on Wednesday, their fourth consecutive record high, with the benchmark BSE index crossing the 28,000 mark for the first time as lenders continued to rally on hope for early interest rate cuts. Nifty shut shop at 8338.3 up by 0.17%(14 points). Banking stocks, PSU OMCs, and pharma stocks rose, metal & mining and cement stocks dropped.

The market breadth indicating the overall health of the market was positive but in Nifty50 stocks, the advance to decline stood at 23 advances to 27 declines.

Commodity Market Update (Crude Oil)

Precious Metals are trading sharply lower with Gold trading at 1146.60 an ounce. The support of 1150.00 has been breached and the outlook is bearish on Gold. Silver is also performing in the same manner with the next support level is seen at 14.70 an ounce. Base metals are negative on LME with Copper trading at 6575.00, lower more than a percent along with all other metals. Lead is the worst performer to record the maximum decline, by 1.80% as we write this. On NYM, Crude Oil and Natural Gas are trading mixed with Crude Oil trading 76.77 per barrel and Natural gas is at 4.18, +1.40, at the time of writing this. Bias for Crude Oil is negative and we expect prices to ease lower in coming days.

The market has opened on a higher note. The Sensex is up 80.29 points at 27940.67 and Nifty also opened higher at 8345.25. The Indian rupee opened marginally lower at 61.35 per dollar on Wednesday against 61.40 on Monday. Asian markets were trading lower on Wednesday. Sentiment in Asia was also under further pressure after the European Commission cut its growth forecasts for the euro zone on Tuesday. The body now forecasts growth of just 0.8 percent this year, down from the 1.2 percent forecast in May. On BSE, Midcap and Small cap are trading higher by 0.73% and 0.88% respectively.
Further the market breadth stands positive with 1505 shares are seen advancing against 856 declining shares.

Closing Summary, Market Synopsis: 3rd November, 2014

Key benchmark indces hit a third consecutive record high on Monday but the gains fizzled out later in the session, with both indexes ending flat as automakers such as Tata Motors declined after monthly sales fell. Thebroader Nifty closed 0.02 percent higher at 8,324.15 points. Data showing a modest pick-up in Indian factory activity, according to the HSBC Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI), failed to have much of an impact.
